Summer of Learning: SAHM 101

It’s a Get-Together. NOT a Party.
Emmett did not want a big party, Augi and Jessi style, complete with activities and themes and songs. He asked to have 4 cousins over to play. Man, he is easy to please!
This year was extra special because it was the first year since his birth that he shared his day with Mother’s Day!
It won’t happen again until 2025.
That will be his *gulp* 17th birthday. OMG.
Back to his 6th birthday…
The guest list: Dayton, Zion, India, and Evie. As is statistically typical, 50% of the guests attended. The others were already booked.
The event planner: The famous Augster.
The menu: Macaroni and Cheese…Annie’s white cheddar of course…and ice cream sandwiches!
The gift: A fish aquarium! We set it up in the night so that he could wake to the surprise. Then, his sister took him to the pet store to choose his fish and décor. 3 tetras, 2 african dwarf frogs, and one rubber lips. We also found an awesome deal on a new digital camera…so he was extra spoiled. I don’t even have a camera. Boo.
The music selection: Em wanted to be in charge of the music. He wanted to be sure I didn’t choose some loser children’s music. His choice? Primus. Oh dear. Winona’s Big Brown Beaver is a lovely song…
but I was leaning more towards Raffi…
We settled on turning the music off entirely and enjoying the sound of chitter chatter instead.
Em had a great time. It was a perfect party for a perfect kid.
Proud to be a Fruit Fly.
Do you know what a fruit fly is? Those pesky little flies that accumulate around your kiwi? NO WAY!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit_(slang)#Fruit_fly
I don’t actually consider myself a fruit fly. However, I do know some amazing guys who happen to be gay so we went to the
Utah Pride Festival
to give them our support.
So this was a big anniversary for the event. The first Utah Pride Festival was just a few months before I was born. I am glad we were here to celebrate together!
I tell you what…there are reasons girls like to be fruit flies.
1. The handsome gay man next to me in the parade told me there is no way I am old enough to have an 8 year old.
2. They definitely put on an awesome festival!
I hope my children grow up to embrace diversity. It is a big world.
For someone who hates crowds, this guy did amazingly well…
When the parade was all about marriage equality and politics, the kids were a bit unimpressed. We have had MANY conversations about the topic and neither can understand why anyone would ever want to prevent good people from marrying the one they love. However, bring in the pirate ship, throw some rainbow stickers at them, offer free cotton candy and snow cones, AND meet up with our bestest cousin in the world… and it became the best day ever!
