Updates

I didn't think life could get any busier around here, but little Emmett has definitely changed our lives. He is darling. He has figured out that if he makes a little noise, I will pick him up and carry him everywhere. He is a great little sleeper at night. I feed him around 12-1 am, and he doesn't eat again until 7! We put him on a postal scale this morning--he has passed 10 lbs. That's 2 lbs in 3 weeks. He is a chunker.

I'm not sure purple and pink will be his favorite colors, but Augi is trying to convince him they are the best.

Luckily, Augi is still able to enjoy herself and act like a goofball. She still goes to Sarah's to play with the kids and she loves it. She is wiped out when she gets home. Play is hard work. She doesn't stop at home, though. She is the energizer bunny.

(Don't ask what she is wearing here. She dresses herself.)

Baby Emmett and New Baby. Augi likes to bathe her baby when I bathe little E.K. She does a great job.

Love at First Sight

We are home--and very happy. This little guy saved me from a c-section by coming 4 weeks early and weighing 7 lbs 15 oz!

Augi settled right in to the hospital.

Big sister whispered, "I promise, promise, I love you. I promise."

Um...Augi got a hold of the camera. Too bad you can't see her weirdo two uvulas.

Augi Wisdom

I always say I will write these things down, but I rarely do.
This morning I woke Augi and said, "Good morning!" Here is how Augi replied:
"That's the problem, mom. Some bees make honey and some don't make honey, they just bite. That's the problem." Really, I am sure the bees were a metaphor for being useful and productive members of society vs. being lazy and harmful. My 2 year old is deep. I guess that comes from her daddy. I am pretty much just distracted by shiny things most of the time.
Yesterday we were at the playground. I apologized to Augi because I always have to say, "I can't" when she wants me to hold her or run or play rough. I told her that after the baby comes, I will be able to do those things again. She said, "And, you will have a lap!" Apparently she has noticed the shrinking lap and growing belly.
For those of you who haven't seen it, check out www.yeswecansong.com
It made me teary. Maybe it's the hormones, but I thought it was really good.
We are thinking of names. I thought we had settled on John Emmett. Now it seems too boring. Chris likes Asher. I like Moises. But, what order do we put them in? I hate choosing a name.

Discovery Gateway

We try to get together with Chiana and Julia and their mommy at least once a month. They are such cute girls. The Discovery museum is really fun, but I miss the old building. Some woman approached me and felt the need to tell me that she never got as big as me when she was pregnant. People are so freakin' weird.

Discovery continued...

Windy!

Meet the Flinstones...

Yee-haw!

Reno-pa-too posies, asses, asses, all fall down!
I have got to get a recording of Augi singing this. However, I am afraid she might be getting the words right these days--so I probably missed my chance.

It's getting warm!

We went to the park today with Kaedyn and Kaisy. The birds aren't quite as aggressive as the duck pond, so Augi was a little happier. She hates the swans.

Who has the biggest tummy? In 2 1/2 weeks I will be full term. I hope I can make it that far. I feel like little John will be here any minute. My maternity clothes don't fit anymore. I walk at a snail's pace. Augi realized today that she could ride her little bike away from me as fast as could be and I can't chase her. Oh, the freedom!

Last weekend we tried to go kite flying. It didn't go so well. It was way too windy and the $1 kite kept self-destructing. Augi was excited to be able to run free in the field and play at the school playground, so she didn't really care about the kite.

Bye bye Beta Fishy

Augi's Beta Fishy died today. She was a little sad for a second. She didn't really seem to get it. She said we should just feed him. Well, maybe if we'd done that a few weeks ago he would still be alive. Just kidding. He had quite a nice little life, really. We had him for 18 months. I checked, and they only live 2-3 years. Maybe he was already a year old when we bought him. The weird thing is I looked up their lifespan on Friday--just out of curiosity--and he died two days later. She has already requested a purple fish to replace him. I am not getting another fish. I hate taking care of them.

Brayden, the little grandchild of our neighbors, came by to play for about 3 hours yesterday. He says Augi is his girlfriend. He is almost 2 years older than her and he is really sweet to her. Augi is going to love being outside now that it is warmer. Me too. However, even today felt a little too warm for me.
Do any of you remember my request to limit stuffed animals for Augi? Thanks for listening. You can see from this picture that she is really deficient in the stuffed toy arena. I swear they multiply in the night.
Oh--and for the best news ever. I don't want to jinx myself, but Augi went to sleep completely on her own for her nap and bedtime today. All I did was tuck her in and walk away. She also used the potty several times over the last few days. I want her to be potty trained, but is there any way to completely avoid public restrooms? I gag at the thought of her having to use one.

Easter

We had to wake Sleeping Beauty to see what treats the Easter Bunny had left. She was disappointed with a few of his selected placements, so she just moved those eggs.

Aaaa...you gotta love the bunny delivering weapons to small children. It's a water gun, ok.

After dressing up in our Easter dress (purple, of course), we went to Dayton's for the best egg hunt ever! They have the greatest place--chickens and red barn and everything.

Dayton took Augi for a spin in his SUV. She loves it when he crashes into things. It is the funniest thing in the world to watch these two drive around. It is just a taste of what is to come in about 14 years or so.

Comparing loot...

Yard Work

Damn lawnmower. Always getting jammed.

(This mower was a snowblower just a few months ago.)

Bunny Slippers

These little bunny slippers are the cutest thing ever. They actually weren't from the Easter Bunny--we just saw them on clearance at Target a few months ago and had to buy them. I could not get Augi to hold still so we could get a good shot. She wanted to "twirl" as I took the picture. Such a goof ball.

OK, I know this is too much skin for most of our devoted readers. But, Augi is so cute. She was saying hi to her baby brother. I was just 29 weeks here. Yes, now I am 30 weeks. 10 weeks to go. Ug. We put up the crib and changing table today. We went to Ikea for a dresser for Squig because hers is staying in her brother's room. This baby squirms all the time. I'm pretty sure he is hyperactive. Party: the real thing!

Augi had been waiting for WEEKS for her Spring Party. She made decorations, bought the treats, planned where everyone would sit. It was perfect. Dayton spent the day with us and helped decorate. Then, the rest of the cousins came over for pizza and egg dying fun. It is amazing how quickly we have grown into, and out of, this little house. I thought it was huge when we first got it. Now, we have a little party just with the cousins and it is cramped.

MMMMMMMM! Worms and mud!

It was very important to Kaedyn that we take his picture RIGHT HERE.

Party time!

Augi insisted that we have a party. She kept looking at her dad with this cheesey smile as she said, "Smile, dad!" through gritted teeth. This is her smile she inherited from her aunt Tabi. We had party hats, snacks, and decorations. It was great.

Augi has been getting ready for this big move. She hates change, so I wasn't sure we would ever convince her it is a better room. She agreed to move into the bigger bedroom (with purple carpet) as long as we painted the wall purple. She didn't expect her daddy to make a jungle grow on the walls. She was so excited today because we moved all her "stuff" in. I had my pillows on the bed and she told me to get them off because they don't match. I told her that if my pillows were kicked out, I won't sleep with her. She said, "I just sleep on my own, mom!" Duh. Moms are so lame sometimes. She will sleep there tonight! Now the smaller room is available for the baby brother.
